Biografia
Gianluca Podio è nato a Roma nel 1963. Si è diplomato in pianoforte, in direzione d’orchestra, in composizione e ha conseguito il diploma accademico di II° livello in Composizione dal ‘900 ad oggi. Fondamentale per la sua formazione artistica ed umana è stata la profonda amicizia con Goffredo Petrassi.
Ha seguito poi corsi di perfezionamento in composizione con autori come Karlheinz Stockausen, Salvatore Sciarrino,George Hurst prima di iniziare un’attività come pianista, tastierista e programmatore di sintetizzatori elettronici con Ennio Morricone,con il quale ha collaborato per più di dieci anni.
E’ attivo sia come compositore e direttore d’orchestra sia come pianista. Ha diretto importanti orchestra nazionali ed europee,le sue composizioni sono regolarmente eseguite in importanti sedi in Italia e all’estero (per esempio la Carnegie Hall di New York, la Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto e molte altre).
E’ autore in oltre di molta musica di commento per cinema, documentari e produzioni televisive.
Dal 2022 è docente titolare al Conservatorio “L.Refice” di Frosinone . Dal 2007 dal 2022 ha insegnato al Conservatorio “N. Sala di Benevento dove dal 2014 al 2022 ha ricoperto la carica di responsabile dell’area pop rock. Lo studio, il lavoro e l’inclinazione del gusto hanno portato Gianluca Podio verso una varietà di stili e di espressioni musicali che spazia dai grandi classici al pop.
Ha scritto numerose canzoni molte delle quali sono state interpretate da cantanti come Renato Zero, Mina e Fiorella Mannoia mentre con Pino Daniele, con il quale ha collaborato dal 1997 fino alla sua prematura scomparsa, ha composto canzoni,realizzato arrangiamenti, oltre ad averlo accompagnato come pianista nei concerti che il cantautore ha tenuto in tutto il mondo.
Nel 2013 e nel 2014 ha inoltre orchestrato e diretto i concerti per grande orchestra sinfonica che Pino Daniele ha tenuto in prestigiosi teatri come per esempio il concerto tenuto nel settembre dello 2014 all’Arena di Verona. Dal 2015 ad oggi ha tenuto numerosi concerti in qualità di pianista jazz (ad esempio Italian Jazz Festival di Berlino Novembre 2018) oltre che come direttore d’orchestra e arrangiatore. Nell’Anno Accademico 2018-2019 ha tenuto i corsi di Musica per film e Storia della Musica alla Roma Film Academy (con sede in Cinecittà Roma). Tra i più importanti concerti in qualità di arrangiatore e direttore d’orchestra sono da citare il Concerto per le Universiadi 2019,l’Omaggio a Mogol,in qualità di Direttore d’orchestra e arrangiatore con l’ Orchestra Sinfonica “N. Sala” del Conservatorio di Benevento in occasione della Festa della Musica 2019 alla presenza dell’autore,il concerto di colonne sonore “Il cinema in concerto” tenuto nel Dicembre del 2019 al Teatro San Carlo – Napoli in qualità di Direttore d’orchestra e arrangiatore con l’ Orchestra Sinfonica “N. Sala” del Conservatorio di Benevento.
Con Pino Daniele è l’unico artista ad aver composto quattro canzoni pubblicate negli album Passi d’autore (2003) ed in Iguana Cafè (2006) in cui dopo molta ricerca ha applicato insieme a Pino Daniele le tecniche del contrappunto vocale del tardo rinascimento (Gesualdo Da Venosa) alla scrittura pop.
Recentemente nell’ambito dello speciale TG 1 “Pino c’è” dedicato a Pino Daniele (RAIUNO 18 dicembre 2022) è stato intervistato dalla giornalista e regista Cinzia Fiorato per un approfondimento illustrativo delle tecniche contrappuntistiche e compositive applicate nel suo lavoro di co-autore e arrangiatore con Pino Daniele nonché della sua lunga esperienza di lavoro come pianista con lui..

Biography
He graduated in piano in 1984 with a first and honours under the guidance of Carlo Bruno at the Santa Cecilia Music Academy in Rome. He then went on to getting his Composition Diploma, again with a first, with Ivan Vandor (1988) at the “G.B.Martini” Music Academy in Bologna as well as obtaining top marks in his diploma as an Orchestra Conductor with Vittorio Antonellini at the “A.Casella” Music Academy in Aquila (1994).
In 2008 he obtained the Specialized Academic Diploma in Composition (Music from the twentieth century to today) at the “L.Refice” Music Academy in Frosinone with Antonio Poce with a first and honours. His profound friendship with Goffredo Petrassi proved to be absolutely fundamental for his artistic and humane formation.
Furthermore his studio meetings with Karlheinz Stockausen, Aldo Clementi and Salvatore Sciarrino were also significant. He composes symphonic, operatic and chamber music published by Raitrade and regularly performs in important institutions such as the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Gasteig in Munich and the Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto. Since 2022 he has been professor at the “L.Refice” Conservatory in Frosinone. From 2007 to 2022 he taught at the “N.Sala” Conservatory in Benevento where from 2014 to 2022 he held the position of head of the pop rock area.
Gianluca Podio ranges over a vast number of musical genres which give him the ability of having a constant and direct contact with the public. This contact allows him to translate into music all the sensations that the public or audience itself and his life’s experiences give him on a daily basis. Strengthened by his experience he is in fact extremely active in the field of music applied to image where he has professionally developed in contact with leading personalities such as Ennio Morricone.
He regularly makes recordings as an orchestral conductor and pianist with important national and foreign orchestras (Czech National Symphony Orchestra ,The Philharmonic Orchestra of Rome etc…). Amongst his most important performances as a pianist is his recital in the Cappella Paolina (Pauline Chapel) of Rome’s Quirinale broadcast live on Radiotre – Euroradio (2007) and in the Sala dell’Assunta Concert Hall for the Vatican Radio (2008). Furthermore he is regularly involved in master classes and monographic lessons at universities and Music Academies on the relationship between compositions and emotional communication and the various aspects of the composer’s profession. In 2013 and 2014 he also orchestrated and directed the concerts for large symphony orchestra that Pino Daniele held in prestigious theaters such as the concert held in September 2014 at the Verona Arena. From 2015 to today he has given numerous concerts as a jazz pianist (for example Italian Jazz Festival in Berlin November 2018) as well as as conductor and arranger. In the 2018-2019 Academic Year he held Film Music and History of Music courses at the Roma Film Academy (based in Cinecittà Rome). Among the most important concerts as arranger and conductor are from mention the Concert for the 2019 Universiade, the Homage to Mogol, as conductor and arranger with the “N. Sala” of the Benevento Conservatory on the occasion of the 2019 Music Festival in the presence of the author, the soundtrack concert “Il cinema in concerto” held in December 2019 at the San Carlo Theater – Naples as conductor and arranger with the Symphony Orchestra “N. Hall” of the Conservatory of Benevento.
With Pino Daniele he is the only artist to have composed four songs published in the album Passi d’autore (2003) and in Iguana Cafè (2006) in which, after much research, he applied the vocal counterpoint techniques of the late Renaissance together with Pino Daniele (Gesualdo Da Venosa) to pop writing. Recently, as part of the TG 1 special “Pino c’è” dedicated to Pino Daniele (RAIUNO 18 December 2022) he was interviewed by the journalist and director Cinzia Fiorato for an illustrative in-depth analysis of the contrapuntal and compositional techniques applied in his work as co-author and arranger with Pino Daniele as well as his long experience of working with him as pianist and conductor in numerous concerts held in Italy and abroad.
